Depends on circumstances tonka. If you cover short distances regularly, can charge at work and have your own off road parking then theyy could be financially worth it due to the way cars are taxed.

Re: Anyone got an EV?
The government aren't going to keep EVs VED free for long. Watch them pile the tax on as more and more get on the road.

They've dot to get their money from somewhere.

Re: Anyone got an EV?
I have got a Tesla model 3 long range.

Love it, go for it.

Having a home charger helps and costs me about £1.50 to £2 to fill up for about 300 miles. super chargers are good and range is good. drive is great, speed is insane.

Taking it skiing next year so be interesting to see what it is like on a long long journey where you want to hit the road and get there as quick as poss.

Re: Anyone got an EV?
Yeah, I walk to work and the wife works about 5 miles away. I put it on the granny charger over night, and it's pretty much always at 100% every morning.

We have another family car that we can use if needed, but in all honesty the EV does us fine.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't buy one. Lease it as the advancement in technology in EV's is pretty fast at the moment.

Considering one of them Merc Hybrids next year.

C or E. Live about 25 miles from work, got chargers at the office and my house is the perfect setup for a home charger.

Electric cars are a great drive.

Plug in hybrid for me though because I need the ability to do long distances.

If you do end up getting one, change your electric supplier to Octopus Go as you get dirt cheap electric overnight.

But it takes them about a month to pull their finger out and set it all up, so apply a month before you get the car.

Re: Anyone got an EV?
Hermit, have a look up what cars are coming out next year with a decent range. Tesla says 340 miles after a full charge but i drive quite heavy and fast and get about 280 on a longish drive, but gets me from midlands to essex and back with a 10 min stop at rugby services.

most of the super charging points, i am only talking the tesla ones but understand other ev charging points are also as fast, but they average between 500 and 1,000 mph when charging, so a brief 10 min toilet and grab a coffee break gives you an extra 150 miles of charge

Trundle is right the octopus deal they have for electric between 12.30 and 4.30am is fantastic for electric car charging at home.

You can't beat the sound and enjoyment of a V8 and although I was impressed when I drove a Skoda Enyaq iV I still won't be tempted.

Hans Zimmer composes sound for BMW EVs, so it's not all bad!

No, I considered EVs when I bought a new car earlier this year, but I decided to stick with petrol for now (cash purchase, in case you were wondering).

No doubt my next car purchase in 7-8 years time will be an EV.

Coyi only peasants and those earning under 200kk a year keep their car more than 3 years...

BTW if you are a contractor then you are certainly not a very good at accounts if you didn't lease a car, leasing an eV is like free motoring right now

Was looking at the long range Tesla Model 3 but they haven't got the stock and the prices are going up.

The infrastructure makes them appealing but I don't like it that you get locked into their echosystem with monthly charges. Most cars these days have Carplay or Android Auto but Tesla have their own system which I think they bill you for monthly. It's not the money so much, rather that you feel like you're being nickle and dimed.

1. As I have previously stated on here, I am not a "petrol head' and choose not to waste my money buying a new car every three years.

2. I still predominantly work from home in my contract role, so I'd hardly be able to 'expense' a leased motor. I also contract through an umbrella company (voluntarily) so that I pay by fair share of taxes and don't dodgily avoid them by doing my 'own accounts'.

The peasants should love me, given the amount of tax and NIC I voluntarily contribute .

Re: Anyone got an EV?
Hermit what monthly charges do they apply now?

I got mine last year and don't pay any monthly charges. I've got a Samsung phone and everything links fine to that for my calender etc.

I like the fact that it remembers where you go, ok a bit creepy, but then automatically does your sat nav for you.

I've got a Spotify account and that is automatically linked up.

Re: Anyone got an EV?
I plug mine into the three pin normal plug overnight every night and then just use superchargers for long journeys

Tesla plans the whole route for you. Long journey you have to stop for a wee and food anyway so just plug in for half an hours. Easy

Re: Anyone got an EV?
I’ve got a Tesla 3. Lease it through my own company which makes it great deal with tax breaks. Full charge costs about £8 but I do that during day - sounds like I’m missing a trick not doing it overnight. Govt gave me £500 towards installing home charger as well
